Parable of the Seed & Soils
In Mark 4:1-20, as the crowd gathered on the sea side, the Lord Jesus taught them from a boat close to shore. This is often called the Parable of the Sower but it is really about the reception of the soil to the seed sown. The seed is the Word of God. An appeal for salvation is mingled with a compelling challenge to the Christian's responsibility to listen to God’s Word and respond to it. The seed's purpose and fulfillment in both salvation and Christian growth is fruit, the fruit of His Spirit.
We are not saved by works and we don’t walk by works, but there is a call in these messages to diligence; a training, pushing toward the mark as we by patience inherit the promises!
Hebrews 4:2 regrettably conveys that “…the Word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.”
