The Epistle of Colossians
The Apostle Paul penned the Epistle of Colossians for the primary purpose of strengthening the Colossae Christians against two errors: religious legalism and human philosophy. These influences, threatened to undermine the believer's personal faith by substituting human effort or human wisdom for the lordship of Jesus Christ. Col 1:16. and "...it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell." Col 1:19. In his prayer in 1:9-14, Paul links Christ's reign to us. Then again, against the shadow of challenged errors, he writes the wonderful words: "For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily and you are complete in Him, Who is the head of all principality and power." In the last two chapters he shows how this unfathomable union we share with Christ unfolds practically in our daily relationships. |
