For this man of faith, the call struck at the very roots of all that he had known up to that point. When God calls He says in effect, “will you view Me as your security? will you look to Me as your satisfaction, your Comforter and guide? Will you turn to Me alone as your significance, as your King?” |
The characters of the Bible were fraught with the same weaknesses, fears and frailties that characterize us today. These great personalities didn't overcome their circumstances because they were 'super saints'; they overcame because they believed God. Sometimes their paths to faith were wobbly ones and many of them failed before learning the basic lesson that: without God we can do nothing. That which Paul put into words in the New Testament, the Old Testament saints had to learn the hard way! They discovered through real experience that the grace (strength) of God is released only when we see our own incapacity and weakness and learn to trust Him completely.
